Gharial
Gavialis gangeticus

Adult gharials inhabit major river systems, especially deep channels bordered by exposed sandbanks for basking and nesting. They are highly aquatic crocodilians that feed predominantly on fish, captured with their exceptionally long, narrow jaws. Males develop a rounded nasal swelling called a ghara, which amplifies bubbling displays and vocal signals during the breeding season. Despite their great length, their slender snouts are poorly suited to taking large terrestrial prey.
