Green Porcelain Crab

Petrolisthes armatus

Green Porcelain Crab

Adults inhabit rocky shores, oyster reefs, docks, and mangrove-fringed estuaries, often sheltering in tight spaces at low tide. They feed largely by filtering plankton and suspended organic matter, supplementing this with algae and detritus. Despite their crab-like appearance, porcelain crabs are more closely related to squat lobsters and can shed a limb to escape a predator.
