White-spotted Hermit Crab
Dardanus megistos

Adult white-spotted hermit crabs inhabit tropical Indo-Pacific reefs, lagoons, and rocky coastal bottoms. They are omnivorous scavengers that pick apart carrion, graze algae, and seize small animals with powerful claws. The crab carries a large empty gastropod shell over its soft coiled abdomen and retreats deeply inside when attacked. Its conspicuous pale spots and oversized shell make this one of the larger hermit crabs on a reef.
