Purple Sea Urchin
Paracentrotus lividus

The purple sea urchin inhabits shallow rocky reefs, crevices, and seagrass beds in the Mediterranean and nearby Atlantic coasts. It usually grazes algae at night, scraping growth from hard surfaces with its complex five-toothed mouth. Its purple spines and strong tube feet help it resist predators and hold fast in moving water.
