Common Otocinclus
Otocinclus affinis

Adult common otocinclus inhabit warm, well-oxygenated South American streams and river margins with abundant submerged vegetation. They use a suction-cup mouth to continuously rasp algae and biofilm from leaves, driftwood, and rocks. Most activity is spent close to surfaces rather than swimming in open water. Rows of bony plates provide protection while the fish feeds in exposed shallows.
