Desert Spiny Lizard
Sceloporus magister

Adult desert spiny lizards live in deserts, rocky washes, mesquite scrub, and dry woodland edges across the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. They bask openly on rocks, tree trunks, fence posts, and walls, then dart to cover when threatened. Their diet is mostly insects and other arthropods, though larger adults may take small plant material opportunistically. Males are known for territorial push-up displays and bright blue belly patches used in social signaling.
