Knobbed Whelk
Busycon carica

Adult knobbed whelks inhabit shallow coastal waters, estuaries, and sandy bays of the western Atlantic. They are slow-moving predators and scavengers that commonly feed on clams, oysters, and other mollusks. Using a strong proboscis and rasping radula, an adult can bore through or work into the shell of prey.
