Chinese Crocodile Lizard
Shinisaurus crocodilurus
Adults inhabit cool, shallow streams and still pools in humid subtropical forests. They are patient ambush predators that feed on insects, snails, tadpoles, fish, and other small animals caught near the water. This rare lizard is named for its distinctive armored-looking tail, which resembles that of a small crocodile.
