Clown Knifefish
Chitala chitala
Adult clown knifefish live in slow-moving rivers, floodplains, ponds, and lakes across South Asia. Mostly active at dusk and night, they ambush fish, crustaceans, and aquatic insects from cover. Their compressed, knife-shaped body and long anal fin allow controlled forward and backward swimming, while the large eyespots near the tail may confuse predators.
