Asian Arowana
Scleropages formosus
Adult Asian arowanas patrol slow rivers, swamps, and seasonally flooded forest waterways. They are visual predators that take fish, insects, crustaceans, and other small animals near the surface. An adult can launch itself partly out of the water to catch terrestrial prey from low branches. Its large metallic scales have made this species highly prized in the aquarium trade.
