Japanese Giant Salamander
Andrias japonicus

Adults inhabit cold, fast-flowing rivers in wooded mountain regions, resting in deep crevices and burrows along the bank. Mostly active at night, they ambush fish, frogs, crustaceans, and other aquatic prey with a powerful bite. This species is among the largest salamanders in the world and can live for many decades.
