Black Nerite
Nerita melanotragus

Adult black nerites inhabit wave-swept rocky shores and sheltered tidal pools along southern Australian coasts. They slowly graze algae and biofilm from rocks, often emerging to feed when conditions are moist. Their thick, dark shell and tightly closing operculum help them withstand pounding surf, predators, and exposure at low tide.
