Robber Fly
Stenopogon inquinatus

Adult robber flies inhabit sunny, open ground with bare soil, low vegetation, and perches for hunting. They launch from a perch to seize other flying insects, often taking prey larger than themselves. Captured prey is held firmly in the legs while it is pierced and consumed. Their large eyes provide excellent vision for spotting prey in midair.
