European Tortoise Bug
Eurygaster maura

The adult Eurygaster maura is a shield-shaped true bug found in grasslands, field margins, and cereal crops across parts of Europe and western Asia. It feeds on grasses and developing grain with piercing-sucking mouthparts, sometimes becoming a minor crop pest. Adults can fly between host plants but more often sit flattened and camouflaged against stems or seed heads. Its broad scutellum covers much of the back, giving it a compact, armored look, and scent-gland chemicals help deter predators.
