Adults inhabit shallow coastal waters, salt-marsh edges, and sandy seafloors along the western Atlantic. They are slow-moving predators and scavengers that feed especially on clams and other mollusks. Females lay their eggs in a conspicuous chain of flat, disk-shaped capsules.
