Copse Snail
Arianta arbustorum

An adult Copse Snail lives in moist woods, hedgerows, meadows, gardens, and alpine scrub across much of Europe. It grazes on living and dead plants, fungi, and algae, moving most actively in wet weather or at night. When threatened or exposed to dry conditions, it withdraws into its rounded, brown-banded shell and can seal the opening with mucus. This species is notably cold-tolerant for a land snail and occurs from lowlands to mountain habitats.
