Banded Garden Spider
Argiope trifasciata
Banded garden spiders inhabit sunny fields, gardens, and weedy edges, where they build large vertical orb webs among tall plants. They wait at the web hub or nearby on a signal line, rushing out to wrap and bite trapped flying insects. Mature females often decorate their webs with a zigzag band of silk called a stabilimentum.
