Forest Bug
Rhaphigaster nebulosa
Adult Rhaphigaster nebulosa is a mottled shieldbug found on trees, shrubs, walls, and overwintering sites across much of Europe. It feeds mainly on plant sap using a piercing beak, but may also take nutrients from seeds and fruits. When threatened, it releases a strong-smelling chemical secretion from scent glands, a hallmark defense of stink bugs. Unlike the nymph, the adult has functional wings and can fly between host plants or sheltering places.
