North American Racer
Coluber constrictor
North American Racers inhabit open woodland, grassland, farmland, and shrubby edges where they can move rapidly through cover. They hunt by day, pursuing frogs, lizards, rodents, birds, and other small animals before seizing them with their jaws. Despite the name, this harmless snake is nonvenomous and is among the fastest-moving snakes in North America.
