Parrot Cichlid
Hoplarchus psittacus
Parrot Cichlids inhabit slow rivers, floodplain lakes, and seasonally flooded forests of the Amazon and Orinoco basins. They forage around submerged wood and vegetation for insects, crustaceans, fruits, seeds, and other available food. Their thick, parrot-like mouth is well suited to gripping and crushing tough food items.
