Freshwater Nerite
Theodoxus fluviatilis

Freshwater nerites inhabit clear rivers, streams, and lakes, where they graze across rocks, wood, and aquatic vegetation. They feed chiefly on algae and biofilm, helping keep hard surfaces clean. When threatened, they withdraw into their thick, patterned shell and seal the opening with an operculum. This species is notable for tolerating flowing water by gripping surfaces with its broad muscular foot.
