Cauca Guan Hatchling
Penelope perspicax (hatchling)
This downy hatchling leaves its nest soon after hatching and stays close to cover in Colombia's humid Andean forests. It pecks at small insects, tender shoots, and fallen fruit while learning to forage on the forest floor. Its mottled juvenile down helps it remain difficult to spot among leaf litter.
