American Badger
Taxidea taxus

American badger cubs remain in or near a protected den during their earliest months, emerging gradually to explore nearby grassland. They nurse at first, then begin sampling insects and small prey brought within reach. Young cubs play-wrestle and practice digging, biting, and using their foreclaws. They develop their adult digging strength over time but remain much smaller and more vulnerable than mature badgers.
