Red Postman Caterpillar
Heliconius erato (larva)

Red Postman caterpillars live on passionflower vines in tropical forest edges, clearings, and gardens. They crawl along the foliage and chew young leaves, often resting openly on the host plant. The larvae retain cyanogenic compounds from their food, and their conspicuous striping warns many predators that they are unpalatable.
