Setaceous Hebrew Character Caterpillar
Xestia c-nigrum (larva)
This caterpillar feeds at night on the leaves of many low-growing herbaceous plants and crops. It spends daylight hours concealed in leaf litter or at the base of its host plant, relying on its mottled brown colouring. When disturbed, it can curl its soft body tightly into a defensive posture.
