Great Plains Toad Toadlet
Anaxyrus cognatus (toadlet)

Newly metamorphosed toadlets leave drying pools and stay close to damp soil, vegetation, and sheltered ground cover. They switch to hunting tiny insects and other invertebrates with quick tongue strikes. At this stage, their small size makes them especially vulnerable to dehydration, so they are most active during wet weather or at night.
