Common House Mosquito Pupa
Culex pipiens (pupa)

The pupa is a comma-shaped aquatic stage found at the water surface in the same stagnant habitats as the larva. It does not feed, instead using stored energy while the adult body forms inside its pupal case. Although inactive in diet, it can tumble rapidly through the water to escape disturbance. This stage is unusual among many insect pupae because it remains quite mobile.
