Canada Goose Gosling
Branta canadensis (gosling)

A Canada Goose gosling stays close to ponds, marsh edges, and grassy shorelines where it can feed and retreat to water quickly. It grazes on tender grasses, aquatic plants, and small bits of invertebrate food while learning to swim soon after hatching. Its soft yellow-gray down provides warmth but little protection, so it relies on hiding, following adults, and taking to water when threatened. Goslings can walk and swim within a day of hatching, a key survival trait for life in open wetlands.
