Juvenile Canada Goose
Branta canadensis (juvenile)

A juvenile Canada Goose is larger and darker than a gosling, with growing flight feathers and a still-developing adult pattern. It spends much of its time on lakes, rivers, farm fields, and park lawns, grazing on grasses, grains, and aquatic vegetation. Juveniles practice short flights and become more independent while still using water as their safest escape route. By this stage, the bird can threaten rivals with hissing, lunging, and bill jabs, though it is not yet as heavy or forceful as a full adult.
