Megarian Banded Centipede
Scolopendra cingulata

The Megarian banded centipede inhabits dry, stony Mediterranean landscapes, sheltering beneath rocks, bark, and loose soil. It is a mainly nocturnal ambush predator that hunts insects, spiders, woodlice, and other small invertebrates. Its modified front legs, called forcipules, inject venom to subdue prey and discourage predators. The yellow-and-black banded pattern on its body makes it one of the more conspicuous European centipedes.
