Osprey Nestling
Pandion haliaetus (nestling)

A downy chick confined to a large stick nest near lakes, rivers, marshes, or coastal waters. It feeds entirely on fish brought by its parents and spends much of its time begging, resting, and jostling for warmth. When threatened, it can crouch, peck, and use its small talons defensively, but it cannot yet fly or hunt. Young ospreys grow quickly on a high-protein fish diet, replacing pale down with darker juvenile feathers before fledging.
