Osprey Fledgling
Pandion haliaetus (fledgling)

A newly flying juvenile that stays around the nest territory near water while practicing takeoffs, landings, and short hunting flights. It still depends on adults for much of its food but begins watching the water and making clumsy practice dives. Its diet is fish, and its pale-edged juvenile feathers give the upperparts a scaly look. Fledglings must learn to align their feet forward before hitting the water, a skill vital for catching slippery prey.
