Queen of Spain Fritillary
Issoria lathonia
The adult Queen of Spain Fritillary inhabits sunny grasslands, dunes, meadows, and cultivated open country. It flies quickly and close to the ground, pausing at flowers to drink nectar with its long proboscis. The bright silver spots beneath its hindwings give this widespread butterfly its distinctive name.
