Western Barbastelle Pup
Barbastella barbastellus (pup)

A Western Barbastelle pup is born in a maternity roost, usually tucked under loose bark, in a tree crevice, or inside a quiet building space. It feeds on milk and clings to its mother or the roost surface while its wings and fur develop. Young pups give thin isolation calls that help the mother find them among other roosting bats. At this stage it is fragile and not yet the agile night hunter it will become.
