Asian Swallowtail
Papilio xuthus
The Asian swallowtail is the free-flying adult form of Papilio xuthus, common around gardens, orchards, forest edges, and other places with citrus-family host plants. Adults drink nectar from flowers and move quickly between sunny openings, while females search leaves for egg-laying sites. Its black-banded pale wings and tailed hindwings make it one of the familiar swallowtails of East Asia. This entry represents the captured species name separately from the explicitly named butterfly stage.
