Grey Heron Chick
Ardea cinerea (chick)

A Grey Heron chick begins life in a stick nest high in trees, reedbeds, or other colony sites near wetlands. It is covered in down and depends on its parents for regurgitated fish, amphibians, insects, and other small prey. Young chicks defend space in the nest with pecks, jostling, and begging calls. A notable feature is the rapid growth of the long bill and neck that will later define its hunting style.
