Golden Eagle
Aquila chrysaetos

A powerful raptor of mountains, moorlands, grasslands, and open scrub, often nesting on cliffs or large trees. It hunts mainly medium-sized mammals such as hares, rabbits, marmots, and ground squirrels, using high soaring flight, surprise approaches, and forceful talon strikes. Adults are usually solitary or paired and defend large territories with display flights and calls. Its eyesight is exceptionally sharp, allowing prey to be spotted from great distances while circling high overhead.
