Black-chinned Hummingbird
Archilochus alexandri

Black-chinned Hummingbirds inhabit desert washes, gardens, woodland edges, and mountain valleys across western North America. They hover at flowers to drink nectar and also catch tiny flying insects for protein. Males defend feeding territories with rapid aerial chases and display dives. Their wingbeats can exceed 50 beats per second while hovering.
