Ornate Moth Caterpillar
Utetheisa ornatrix (larva)
This caterpillar feeds on rattlebox and other legumes in sunny fields, roadsides, and disturbed open habitat. It spends much of its time chewing foliage, then resting openly with its conspicuous orange-and-black markings visible. Chemicals taken from its host plants make it unpalatable to many predators.
