Japanese Oak Silkmoth Caterpillar
Antheraea yamamai (caterpillar)

Japanese oak silkmoth caterpillars live on oak and other broadleaf trees in forests and woodland edges. They feed steadily on leaves, growing into large green larvae with oblique pale markings that help break up their outline among foliage. When disturbed, they may remain still or curl their body defensively. Their silk is later used to form the strong cocoon of the pupal stage.
