Japanese Oak Silkmoth
Antheraea yamamai

Adult Japanese oak silkmoths inhabit deciduous forests, woodland margins, and areas with suitable oak host trees. They are chiefly nocturnal and fly in search of mates, with males using their feathery antennae to detect female pheromones. Adults have reduced mouthparts and generally do not feed, living on energy stored as larvae. Their broad greenish wings carry conspicuous eyespots that can startle potential predators.
