Eastern Green Lizard Hatchling
Lacerta viridis (hatchling)

Newly hatched Eastern Green Lizards keep low in warm grass, leaf litter, and scrubby edges where cover is close at hand. They feed on tiny insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates, relying on quick darts rather than strength. Their duller juvenile colouring helps them avoid birds, snakes, and larger lizards while they grow. Like other young lacertid lizards, they are active in sunny patches but retreat quickly when disturbed.
