Mountain Cottontail Juvenile
Sylvilagus nuttallii (juvenile)

Juvenile mountain cottontails leave the nest quickly and move through sagebrush, rocky slopes, and open woodland edges. They graze on grasses, forbs, and young shrub leaves while learning to freeze, dash, and zigzag when danger approaches. At this stage they are already independent-looking but remain smaller, lighter, and more vulnerable than adults.
