Gray Hairstreak Caterpillar
Strymon melinus (larva)
This small, sluglike caterpillar lives on legumes and other low-growing host plants in fields, gardens, and open woodland edges. It feeds on flower buds, young leaves, and developing fruit, often resting along stems between meals. Its green body is well camouflaged among foliage, and some larvae are tended by ants attracted to sugary secretions.
