Pond Slider Juvenile
Trachemys scripta (juvenile)

Juvenile pond sliders roam ponds, canals, lakes, and quiet river margins, often basking on logs before slipping into the water at the first sign of danger. Their diet broadens to include insects, snails, small fish, tadpoles, aquatic plants, and algae. They are more mobile and bolder than hatchlings, but still depend heavily on cover and quick dives for safety. The bright shell markings and side stripes are usually stronger at this age than in older adults.
