Pond Slider
Trachemys scripta

Adult pond sliders live in ponds, marshes, lakes, canals, and slow rivers, spending much of the day basking on logs or banks before diving quickly when disturbed. They are omnivores, eating aquatic plants, algae, insects, snails, carrion, and occasional small vertebrates. Adults rely on a hard shell, a strong bite, clawed feet, and escape into water rather than active pursuit on land. This adaptable turtle has become established in many regions outside its native range through the pet trade.
