Eurasian Otter Pup
Lutra lutra (pup)

Eurasian otter pups are born in hidden holts among riverbanks, reed beds, or tree roots, where they spend their earliest weeks sheltered from cold water. They nurse at first, then begin tasting small fish, amphibians, and invertebrates brought by the mother as they learn to swim and dive. Young pups are playful and clumsy compared with adults, practicing rolls, bites, and paddling in shallow water. Their dense fur is already important, trapping air for warmth before they become confident hunters.
