Sora
Porzana carolina
Adult Soras inhabit densely vegetated freshwater marshes, where they usually walk and swim through cover rather than remaining in the open. They probe mud and vegetation for insects, snails, seeds, and aquatic plant matter. This secretive rail is more often detected by its distinctive whinnying call than seen, but can fly strongly when disturbed or migrating.
