European Rhinoceros Beetle Larva
Oryctes nasicornis (larva)

The larva lives hidden in rotting wood, compost heaps, and rich decaying plant matter, where it tunnels through soft material. It feeds mainly on decomposing vegetation rather than living roots, helping break down old organic matter. Its pale, curved grub body is soft, but it can push strongly through its underground nursery. A larva may spend several years growing before it is ready to pupate.
