American Toad Tadpole
Anaxyrus americanus (tadpole)

American toad tadpoles live in shallow ponds, marsh pools, and temporary rain-filled water where they graze on algae, detritus, and soft plant material. They move with quick tail flicks and often stay in warm, shallow areas that speed their growth. Their dark bodies can form loose clusters, and their skin is mildly unpalatable to many fish. This stage is fully aquatic and vulnerable to drying pools, so rapid development is important.
